We attended our first big, youth buckle show, sponsored by Chico Young Farmers, in Decatur, TX. Not only were there dairy goats (does and wethers), but also market goats, swine, cattle, and lambs. There were so many youth and animals showing at the same time, that it felt really chaotic and different than the ADGA sanctioned dairy shows and even the fairs that we’ve attended. But it was a learning experience!
Both Daphne (age 7) and Emmett (age 4) showed in Peewee Showmanship with Daphne placing 2nd and Emmett placing 4th. They still have some work to do at home, practicing when to switch sides of their goat and setting their animal up.

They showed three junior does: Lyanna (0-6 month class), Hera (6-12 month class), and Amidala (6-12 month). Lyanna placed 1st and went into the champion lineup, but couldn’t compete with the maturity of the older does.

Another highlight of the show as getting to see MerryTale RP Nutmeg, littermate to Hera. She placed well in her class and we’re proud to have produced such nice doe kids this year.

We were privileged to mentor two different youth families at the show, both showing animals that we sold to them.
If you have kids interested in showing, we would love to help! Nigerian Dwarfs are a great breed for young children and the perfect size to learn with.
There are two more youth buckle shows coming up in Decatur, including Raquel’s Wings – Jan Buckner Memorial Show on November 28, 2020 and the Officer Wes Hardy Memorial Buckle Show on December 5, 2020.
